Rap Flashback – The Low End Theory

21 years ago today, A Tribe Called Quest dropped ‘The Low End Theory’, much to the delight of pure Hip Hop heads.  The record featured production from Tribe’s own Ali Shaheed Muhammad as well as Skeff Anselm and Pete Rock to complement emcees Q-Tip and Phife Dawg smooth, laid back vocals.  ‘The Low End Theory’ peaked at #45 on the US Billboard 200 charts (#13 on the Hip Hop/R&B charts) and smash hit ‘Check the Rhime’ hit #1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart.

The album also received 5 mics from The Source, helped pioneer Alternative Hip Hop in the early 90s, and paved the way for a Hip Hop / Jazz fusion based sound that many artists would experiment with in the coming years, most notably Guru with his Jazzmatazz series.  For dropping a classic and inspiring Alternative Hip Hop groups such as ourselves, today we salute A Tribe Called Quest!  Now go ahead and check the Scenario.

“Hey yo, Bo knows this / (What?!?)
