Today we celebrate the life of Adam Yauch, better known as MCA of the legendary Beastie Boys. In 2009, Yauch had a cancerous tumor removed from his salivary gland and he had been battled the illness through the remainder of his life, sadly passing on May 4th, 2012. He left behind a powerful legacy of music and pop culture influence. Simply put, MCA along w/ his Beastie counterparts Mike D (Michael Diamond) and Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz) changed music, both sonically and stylistically.
Along w/ Run DMC, the Beastie Boys pioneered the Rock/Rap fusion sound that powered the careers of Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and several others. One can also make the case that emcees such as Eminem, 3rd Bass, Bubba Sparks, and Yelawolf all benefited from MCA and the Beastie Boys’ influence. Simply put, the Beastie Boys are one of the most successful, fun, and memorable bands of all time, re-inventing their sound and style as they progressed in their careers and winning multiple Grammys along the way.
As Russell Simmons put it, “Adam was incredibly sweet and the most sensitive artist who I loved dearly. I was always inspired by his work. He will be missed by all of us.” Today, we at JP Lime Productions salute his legacy. Rest In Power, MCA, you’ll be greatly missed.
